United by Unique
Today, February 4th, marks World Cancer Day with this year’s theme “United by Unique”. This day is a reminder why we are doing what we do in IDERHA: to improve the life of cancer patients.
World Cancer Day is a global initiative with the goal to raise awareness, encourage prevention, and a yearly call to action against one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Lung cancer is one of the most common cancer types and accounts for around 20% of cancer deaths in Europe.
IDERHA is committed to Europe’s Beating Cancer plan, and strongly supports the goals and mission of World Cancer Day. We do this by improving clinical decision-making and enhancing patient access to health innovations through better use and reuse of health data. Within IDERHA, our focus is on lung cancer, however the digital platform we create is for all diseases.
In IDERHA, we are looking for personalised treatment of individual patient to give them the best quality of life.
With this year’s theme “United by Unique” it is perfectly illustrated that every patient with cancer is different. Therefore, in IDERHA we believe that with every patient being unique, treatment should be matched to the individual patient. With the digital platform we are developing, we hope to bring personalised medicine a step closer to patients. To make sure that what we do is benefitting the patients and matches their unique needs, the Patient Advisory Board (PAB) is involved throughout the project for advice on project activities from a patient-centric perspective.
World Cancer Day is not just a day of reflection; it is a call to action. By uniting efforts, collaboration, raising awareness, and advocating for equitable access to care, we can move closer to a future where cancer is preventable, treatable, and ultimately, defeated.
