IDERHA showcases practical EHDS implementation at dHealth 2026
Earlier this month, Stefan Sauermann (FH Technikum Wien) represented IDERHA at the 20th dHealth Conference in Vienna, contributing to a session focused on the European Health Data Space (EHDS) and the secondary use of health data. Bringing together more than 400 participants from 12 countries, the conference provided an important forum for discussing the future of digital health in Europe.
During his presentation, Stefan highlighted how IDERHA is already putting key EHDS principles into practice. Using the project as a real-world example, he demonstrated how collaboration and infrastructure can support the emerging EHDS ecosystem.
Among the key messages shared were that IDERHA has established the IT infrastructure required for federated learning, which will be demonstrated through real-world lung cancer use cases. The project also offers a lean and compliant framework for data use through its Joint Controller Agreement and Data Management Plan, enabling valuable data analysis today while remaining aligned with future EHDS requirements. In addition, strong collaboration between data holders and data users across the consortium is helping to pioneer new ways of working within the EHDS landscape.
The presentation underlined that IDERHA is not only preparing for the European Health Data Space but is already contributing to its practical implementation, accelerating learning and progress towards a functional and sustainable health data ecosystem in Europe.
We thank Stefan and all session participants for sharing their expertise and insights, and for helping advance the conversation on the future of health data in Europe.
