IDERHA highlights the potential of federated health data at ERS Congress 2026
The IDERHA project played an active role at the European Respiratory Society (ERS) Congress 2026, contributing to discussions on the future of health data sharing, real-world evidence, and respiratory research in Europe. Across two dedicated sessions, IDERHA representatives showcased how federated data approaches can support collaboration, accelerate research, and improve patient outcomes while maintaining privacy, security, and trust.
On 5 September 2026, the session “IDERHA: a federated data space to improve clinical research and patient outcomes” highlighted the project's vision for a federated health data ecosystem. Presentations emphasised the importance of keeping patients at the centre of data initiatives, generating real-world evidence to complement clinical trials, and enabling secure collaboration through federated data models.
Later, on 9 September 2026, IDERHA contributed to the roundtable “Data, trust and power: building a trusted European respiratory data infrastructure.” Stakeholders from across the respiratory community explored the governance, sustainability, and future of a trusted data infrastructure aligned with the European Health Data Space (EHDS). The discussion reinforced the importance of trust, patient involvement, and federated approaches in unlocking the full potential of health data for research and innovation.
As IDERHA enters the next phase of the project, with its beta infrastructure operational and collaborations continuing to expand across Europe, the consortium remains committed to building a trusted federated ecosystem that supports researchers, clinicians, and patients in advancing lung cancer research and care.
