IDERHA and World Cancer Day
On World Cancer Day, we are reminded once again why we are doing what we’re doing in IDERHA: to improve cancer patient’s lives. This year's theme is especially close to our hearts.
February 4th is World Cancer Day, a global initiative aimed at raising awareness, encouraging prevention, and fostering collective action against one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide.
IDERHA is committed to Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan (PDF), and strongly supports the goals and mission of World Cancer Day. We do this in our own little corner of the fight against cancer: by improving clinical decision-making and enhancing patient access to health innovations through better use and reuse of health data. Lung cancer is the focus of our attention, but our digital platform will be disease-independent.

IDERHA is strongly aligned with this year's theme, "Close the Care Gap". Despite significant advancements in medical science, many individuals still face barriers in accessing timely and quality cancer care, leading to unequal outcomes. IDERHA’s digital platform and efforts to accelerate policy development to meet advances in healthcare, aims to decrease this inequality by better use of health data. In IDERHA, we will link and analyse human health data by using artificial intelligence and machine learning to improve early detection of lung cancer and the quality of life for individuals with experience with lung cancer.
World Cancer Day is not just a day of reflection; it is a call to action. By uniting efforts, collaboration, raising awareness, and advocating for equitable access to care, we can move closer to a future where cancer is preventable, treatable, and ultimately, defeated.
